About the Space Coast Mustang Club

The Space Coast Mustang Club had its humble beginnings on August 27, 1981.  First named "Florida East Coast Mustang Club", a group of twenty-five individuals met at the Barnett Bank board room of what is now Nations Bank in Cocoa.  Coy Revis and Michael Perez, still members today, were among that original group.

Almost immediately after the Club was formed, members began participation in car shows.  The first was at Searstown Mall in Titusville on September 11th and 12th, and then another occurred about 3 weeks later at the Merritt Island Mall.  Both of these were indoor shows and were very successful.

Club social events began very soon, also.  On November 22nd, a covered dish picnic was held for the entire family in West Cocoa.  This tradition has continued from 1981 right down to the present time.

The Club's first membership roster was published in 1982.  Of this early list, Dan Akimoto, Jerry and Jean Boles, Don Brown, Sandy Henry, Bob Mungall, Mike Perez, Coy Revis, and Len Wardman are still active members of the Club.  New By-Laws were developed in 1986, and the name of the Club was changed to the Space Coast Mustang Club to more accurately reflect our Space Coast heritage.  Almost from the beginning, the Club held discussions on a national affiliation with the Mustang Club of AmericaFinally, in 1991, the Space Coast Mustang Club took that BIG step and was approved as a Regional group of the Mustang Club of America.

The Club has hosted many shows since its earliest days.  For a number of years a show was held in conjunction with Warren Wooten Ford at their facility in Cocoa.  But one show has become a real tradition.....the Cocoa Village Show.....held each year on the first Sunday of November.  This has been an annual show since 1982!

Each year the Club has held a variety of events.....something for everybody!  We have had tours, rallies, cruise-ins, dinners, parades, picnics, etc.  We even participate in the Merritt Island High School homecoming activities by driving the queen and her court around the football field in Mustang convertibles.....their mascot is the mustang horse!

But throughout the years, the Club has helped make the community a better place by providing support to local charities   We have donated toys to "Toys for Tots", and we have assisted with D.A.R.E. in the public schools, as well as helping the Brevard Zoo get started.

In 1999, we made it to the Big Time!  We hosted our first MCA National Show, the "Spaceport Blastoff" 1999, held at the Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex.
